OCBC Consumer Financial Services (CFS) Dinner and Dance 2019

Superheroes Assemble!

The client has indicated they would like a night where all their employees can dress up according to a theme. Their objectives were to see all the OCBC employees enjoying themselves with one another.

Other than the customary lucky draw and excellent-tasting food, the OCBC D&D also witnessed a night of exciting and humorous stage games conducted by the emcee. To sum it up, the D&D was crafted after a deliberate and careful selection process, which includes venue selection, theme selection, suitable decorations, food choices, entertainment selection, and choice of activities.

Nevertheless, with proper planning, the team filled a night of laughter, fun, and excitement.

The Challenge

In any situation, consistency has always been an uphill battle, and maintaining a status quo on one’s performance is easier said than done. The bottom line is that the D&D needs to be enjoyable and engaging, something the client has stressed.

The client also emphasized the need to excite the attendees by getting them to participate in fringe activities before they stepped into the dining hall. As such, the Asdor team would have to plan the necessary and proposed activities of such nature.

The Approach

Asdor held a few brainstorming sessions internally to generate a few dinner and dance themes. The ideas generated were later proposed to the client, who finally decided to proceed with the theme of “Superheroes”. The theme requires each OCBC department to dress up in a superhero of their choice, and all of the attendees will also be given an invitation card, which they can use to build a reduced-sized superhero.

Instead of having an ordinary D&D invitation card, the Asdor team included a practical, easy-to-make superhero cut-out card. Each attendee will receive a Superman, Ironman, Spiderman, or Batman invitation card designed entirely by the Asdor design team. Attendees must bring a portion of the card to the D&D, and they may choose to keep the other half as a memento.

As for the fringe activities, the Asdor team included photo spots spread around the foyer and erected an arch at the entrance to welcome guests to the dinner and dance.

The Solution

Asdor’s design team fully designed the arch and the photo spots, but the client decided on which design to proceed with. Different photo spot themes were being set up around the event venue, giving the attendees plenty of choices to have their photos taken. As for the invitation card, the Asdor team had initially proposed a pop-up design, but after several meetings with the client, the team decided to adopt the cut-out design instead.

Stage games are a great tool to relax the mood at dinner and dance. They demand mass participation and, more often than not, will result in a good ribbing. The team had planned a few stage games for this dinner and dance with the emcee. Games such as the “Superhero Checklist” – where participants need to amass items from the audience and “Superhero Dance Off” – where, as the name suggests, having participants compete in a dance proved effective in this dinner and dance.

To ensure a smooth running of the evening’s program, the Asdor team held two rehearsals. This is especially crucial for performers like “Limited Edition” and “Supersonic”. The former, known for its energetic and lively performances, depended on the sound and lights to pull off a dance routine. While the band “Supersonic”, no stranger to keeping the mood alive with their rocking band beats, had to familiarise themselves with the equipment and stage settings.
